Racing Program
SNSYC hosts a vibrant, year-round racing program featuring both distance courses and round-the-buoys competition. Races take place nearly every Sunday, in all seasons. Alongside our weekly series, we organize the overnight Patos Island Race each spring and regularly join invitational events hosted by other yacht clubs across the region. We also participate in regattas as part of the Vancouver Island Racing Series (VIRS). These races offer a chance to explore new waters, build camaraderie, and proudly represent SNSYC within the broader sailing community.
Curious about racing but not sure where to start? First-time skippers are invited to race their boats free for one full series (six races)—no club membership required. After that, it’s just $75 per boat per calendar year for members (or $200 for non-members), covering more than 50 races annually. Every boat needs crew, and we’re always looking for enthusiastic sailors. To ensure safety and enjoyment for all, we ask that crew have completed a recognized sailing course and feel comfortable handling a boat under race conditions before contacting the club.
And of course, we consider post-race gatherings in the club bar to be just as important as the racing itself. See you on the water—and at the bar!
