Patos Island Race

Join us on March 13 & 14, 2027, as the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club hosts the 44th annual Patos Island Race. This celebrated regatta opens the Vancouver Island Racing Series and remains one of the most anticipated sailing events in the Pacific Northwest. Renowned for its stunning scenery and tactically demanding routes, the event draws skilled skippers and crews from Vancouver Island, the mainland, and beyond for a true test of strategy, endurance, and seamanship.

Sailors can choose from three distinct and challenging courses: the Patos Island Race, Round Pender, or the Gulf Islands Course.

Patos Island Race (~67 NM)

The signature 24-hour event sends boats on a full circumnavigation of Patos Island, with the added tactical challenge of choosing which direction to round. Demanding endurance, strategic decision-making, and seamless teamwork, the race challenges crews as conditions evolve throughout the course.

Round Pender (~43 NM)

A race through the scenic waters surrounding Pender and Prevost Islands. This demanding course features strong tidal influences and spectacular coastal scenery, while providing an excellent option for crews seeking a race that is primarily sailed in daylight.

Gulf Islands Course (~30 NM)

This competitive daytime race follows 1 of 5 possible courses selected by the Race Committee on the morning of the event. Designed to be completed in approximately 8 hours, it weaves through fixed marks and island features in the Southern Gulf Islands, rewarding tactical decision-making and boat speed.
