Patos Island Race

The Patos Island Race: A Legendary Start to the Season

Kick off your racing season with one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic offshore regattas. Hosted by the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club, the Patos Island Race opens the Vancouver Island Racing Series with a 24-hour challenge through the stunning Southern Gulf Islands and San Juan Islands.

This is more than a race - it’s a rite of passage for skippers and crews from Vancouver Island, the mainland, and beyond. Known for its scenic beauty and tactically demanding course, Patos tests your navigation, endurance, and teamwork in a true showcase of sailing skill.

What to Expect

Challenging Courses: The Long Course (~67 NM) and Short Course (~43 NM) deliver the full 24hour overnight experience - complete with the legendary decision of which way youll round Patos Island. Prefer a fast, tactical daytime challenge? The Gulf Islands Course (~30 NM) packs seven hours of tight day racing around fixed marks and islands.

SNSYC Hospitality: Enjoy complimentary moorage, a Friday night social, hearty Saturday breakfast, take-away lunch, and hot chili served overnight in the clubhouse - because great racing deserves great camaraderie.

Celebration & Prizes: Return to the SNSYC clubhouse Sunday for awards, stories, and recognition of skill, perseverance, and the spirit of sailboat racing.
