SPEAKERS’ SERIES, NOV 28: SAILING AROUND THE PACIFIC WITH KIDS!
Have you ever thought about downsizing and sailing off over the
horizon? Come out and listen to the story of a couple who did just that!
After 23 years in the Canadian Forces, Max and Elizabeth Shaw sold their
house, purged their possessions, and headed for the South Pacific with
their two youngsters. Their third baby was born in Mexico, celebrated
his first birthday on arrival in New Zealand, and turned six as they
returned to Canada. As a family, they faced dirty diapers at sea,
maintenance in exotic locations, and uncharted reefs, travelling
some 36,000 nm and visiting over 14 different countries before tying up
at Port Sidney Marina where they lived aboard for almost five years.
Now Max is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker and Yachtmaster
Offshore Instructor and they work together to help other families launch
their own adventures.
There will be a dinner served at 1800 if you wish, and the talk will begin
at 1915. If you are coming to dinner, please be sure to book and pay
online ASAP so that Chef Alec will know how much food to prepare.
The meal will cost $35 (T and G included). And, don’t forget that you
are welcome to bring friends, family, dogs and pet giraffes.
