Club member Neil Cormie hiked “The Gold Rush Trail of 1898” which was the main route to Dawson City, the centre of the Klondike goldfields. The trail crosses from Skagway Alaska into Canada and is a protected historic trail. Dawson City at its peak grew to be the largest city west of Winnipeg, with a population of 35 to 50 thousand people. The Canadian author Pierre Berton was born there and wrote ‘The Klondike’ that was Neil’s inspiration to hike the trail. Neil’s got lots of great photos to enthrall you with. There’s a dinner offered at 1800 and, if you want to join us, be sure to book in advance. Unfortunately, we’ve had to raise the cost of dinner to $40 including tax and gratuity, due to significant increases in the price of foodstuff. Neil’s talk will begin at 1915 and will last about an hour.
