"Tod Inlet: a Healing Place"

with Gwen Curry

Tod Inlet will be familiar to most members and was the site of a large limestone quarry during earlier years. Despite the ravages of the past century, Tod Inlet retains a spirit of peace and renewal. In other environments this clash of the man-made with the natural can create an unsettling mix. Here, time has allowed nature to begin the healing process and has morphed into a present that speaks softly of its past.

Gwen Curry will take us on her walks down to the Inlet. Her beautiful photographs capture the spirit of present-day Tod Inlet, while her sensitive perspective gives us glimpses into the Inlet’s natural, industrial and First Nations history.

Gwen completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Victoria (1974) and a Master of Fine Arts at Arizona State University (1978). She established her reputation as a printmaker in the late 1970s before her practice expanded to include sculpture, installation, and text-based art as well as large-scale, thematically linked drawings, often displayed in linear sequences or grids. Gwen taught printmaking and drawing at UVic from 1978 until 1994.

The talk begins at 1915 and a buffet will be served at 1800.  If you wish to come to the buffet please contact our staff and make a reservation.  The cost of the buffet is $30, including taxes and gratuity.
